Maximizing Every Space in Your Home

If you’re looking to boost the potential of every nook and cranny of your home, here are some home design ideas that may help.

Entryway No matter what the design, this is the first area of your home to welcomes guests and the last room your family sees before heading out to school or work. This area has to be functional and people need to have the ability to maneuver quickly and efficiently. In floor plans like our Oxford at Halstead, homeowners can maximize space by placing a bench along the wall to help with the removal of shoes. Or to take it a step farther, consider a bench with cubbyholes underneath! Kitchen The kitchen is the busiest room of your entire home. Not only does it need to be functional and welcoming, but it has to be an enjoyable place to cook and entertain. All of our plans include spacious, open kitchens with plenty of cabinets. To help increase the capacity and help organization, consider adding plate racks, lazy susans, or drawer inserts. All of these additions can be used in multiple ways to help organize and decrease clutter. Many of our floorplans feature breakfast bars or kitchen islands large enough for seating, for a two-in-one feature. These eat-in kitchen designs give families the opportunity to chat while multi-tasking and simplify cleanup Bathroom Bathrooms are the first go-to room in the morning and often the last room we see at night. There are so many little odds and ends that you need to have, but there never seems to be just the right place to store them. The best way to expand space in these rooms is to assess who uses which bathrooms and for what. Shared bathrooms with kids can feature open shelving and baskets under the sink so little hands can easily grab what they seek. Consider stashing beauty appliances behind the cabinet door when not in use. A jewelry or shoe organizer hung on the back of the door or on the wall behind the door can hold items like make-up, combs and various accessories. Adding shelves above the toilet or beside the mirror can add organization, while adding a large shelf above the door can help with storage. Color schemes and use of glass in these rooms can lend an expansive feeling. Many of our floorplans include linen closets with solid wood shelving giving our homeowners plenty of bathroom storage. Family room Family rooms get the most traffic of any room in the house, and they always seem to get the messiest without even trying. Make every piece of furniture count in this room and maximize space with multifunctional furniture such as ottomans or trunk tables that provide additional storage and serve as a nice conversation piece. Fill these pieces with main living area items, such as blankets or games, so that they’re easily accessible when needed. Mounting the television on the wall with a full-motion TV mount will allow your family to comfortably watch a favorite movie or show from any part of the room. Bedroom Every bedroom in your home should be a refuge from the world and a place you can retreat to when you need to relax. All of our plans are designed to give residents a place of enjoyment and peace. A bed frame with drawers for clothes or bedding underneath is a great option for any occupied bedroom. Who doesn’t want a laundry room where they don’t dread washing and folding clothes? Having enough room to move around and having all supplies neatly put away can mean the difference between love and hate in the laundry room. A stackable washer and dryer allows for more floor space and wall space. Our laundry room in our Wedgewood floorplan is large enough for a full wall of cabinets for maximum storage and folding space and also includes a laundry sink as standard. Garage To maximize the space you do have in the garage, install overhead ceiling racks for luggage, recreation equipment, seasonal decorations and lawn equipment so you can actually fit your cars in the garage. There are multiple rolling bins and storage containers that fit perfectly in the garage, depending on the items you need to store.
