Approval for New Mixed-Use Community in Chesapeake

The Dragas Companies receives approval for new mixed-use community in Chesapeake Land rezoned for 258 homes at intersection of Centerville Turnpike and Elbow Road
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Dragas Companies, with a 55-year track record of creating sustainable neighborhoods of enduring beauty in Hampton Roads, is making way for its next lifestyle community in Chesapeake, VA.
Located at the intersection of Centerville Turnpike and Elbow Road, Grayson Commons at Centerville garnered a unanimous vote for rezoning approval in mid-November by the Chesapeake City Council, which recognized the severe regional housing shortage and Grayson Commons’ numerous benefits to the City.
The lifestyle community will feature 258 homes and be adorned with Dragas’ signature touches: abundant landscaping, ornamental monument signage, public and private walking and biking trails, a large swimming pool and recreation area, and numerous lakes with fountains.
The neighborhood will have broad market appeal—both garden-style flats and three-story townhomes with 2-car garages will be offered. With floor plans designed for everyone from first-time homebuyers to families with children, to seniors looking for one-level, first floor living, Grayson Commons will become a welcoming neighborhood for anyone seeking a low-maintenance, affordable lifestyle.
In concert with its reputation for corporate responsibility and sustainable development, The Dragas Companies will dedicate significant amounts of land, add generous turn-lane capacity, and build a ring road that will allow many drivers to altogether avoid the intersection of Elbow Road and Centerville Turnpike. These multi-million-dollar enhancements will ensure that ample infrastructure is in place to support additional growth.
“We’re delighted to bring our vision for Grayson Commons to life and appreciate the City of Chesapeake’s recognition of the need for more housing to support its ambitious growth plans,” said Helen Dragas, President and CEO. “Our team stands at the ready to fulfill the dream of homeownership for so many who want to call the highly desirable city of Chesapeake home.”
Approval for Grayson Commons comes as Dragas is set to break ground just east of the site at its Crestfield at Centerville Community, a neighborhood of 150 single-family homes that is scheduled to start pre-selling mid-2023. The Dragas Companies has three other communities slated to open throughout 2023.
