Dragas Celebrates 55 Year Anniversary

55 Year Anniversary 

55 years ago today, George Dragas hung the Dragas Mortgage Company shingle to help local families experience the pride of homeownership.  Seeing people achieve the American dream led naturally to a partnership with his brother Mark to build homes in Hampton Roads. Under a new name, The Dragas Companies broke ground on the company’s first community in 1978. 

It was the beginning of a commitment not to simply build homes, but to build neighborhoods of enduring beauty and sustainable value.  It was the start of a legacy of serving Hampton Roads with integrity and excellence.  And it was the genesis of many good deeds to help elevate the less fortunate in our region.

Through teamwork between our staff and trade partners, the company thrived and grew through the ups and downs of many economic cycles.  Over the past 55 years, we’ve created more than 60 communities that have welcomed over 8,500 families home.
